Sandy Backstory p2

Marty grew attached to his little sister like a Combee to honey. He took care of her and helped her make her first steps, he looked after her when their parents were out or busy farming, and he helped her learn how to speak! At first, all she knew how to say was “Deeee,” which Marty affectionately repeated back to her.

“You silly dee dee,” he would say and then wiggle her nose gently. And little Dora would giggle. It didn't take long before this became her nickname. After a while, even their parents forgot that she wasn't really “Didi” (unless they were scolding her).

When Didi and Marty were old enough, they were taught how to do the chores around the berry farm. Marty learned from their dad how to dig up the ground to plant berries, while Didi learned how to make jams and jellies from their mam. Didi developed a habit of incredible curiosity, asking every question that came to mind. She grew easily bored and her attention span was very short. It was all their mother could do to keep her in the kitchen for more than a few minutes at a time.

“Jellies are borin'” she would chirp and then race outside to see what Marty was up to.
